Our first week of library classes is underway! This week are just going over the rules and procedures of the library. Then I am giving the students a bit more time than usual to look for a book. Since it is their first week back in awhile, they are taking their time looking through everything again!! So please look for the book your child has brought home. I know they will want to share it with you.
Next week we will start with some library lessons! This week I also placed a Scholastic book order, so hopefully by the end of next week, we will have some more new books for our library. It is always exciting to spend our book fair profits! They let us continually get new books throughout the year.

It’s a new school year! And a new year in library!! The students will start attending library classes next Monday. They will be able to check out books, and like last year they will be able to check out one book per visit. I can’t wait to get started back with everyone!
Also, this year I will try harder with the wiki updates! Between updating the website main page and the Facebook, I let my wiki slide last year. Sorry about that!

Greetings from the library! This has been kind of a crazy week in the library. Everyone is excited about all of the activities happening next week. I’ve been sick so I have missed some time here! I’m trying to get caught today. This morning Ms. Durfee’s students came in and learned about Christmas in other countries. They also made some handy reminders so the rest of the school can learn about Christmas in other countries.
Today I also have a special friend in the library! Mrs. Jane’s elf Jingle has decided to come to the library and have some fun in here!

Well I have already started doing Christmas activities in the library. The days are going by so fast, Christmas will be here before we know it! Hopefully by next week I’ll have some stories written by fifth graders. Today they wrote rough drafts about what they would do if they had an elf for a whole day. So far they are pretty hilarious, and next week we are going to edit and type them up. I’ll post a few of them on the website if the kids are brave enough!

There’s a lot going on in the library this week! I received our two new laptops from Donor’s Choose last Friday. They run Windows 8, so it has been an interesting experience getting used to the new operating system. Hopefully the kids will take to it better than some of the adults have!
Last week in library the third, fourth, and fifth graders worked on their first informational resources packets of the year. I’m so proud of my fourth and fifth graders, because they remembered how to skim and scan and look for keywords! This was the first time the third graders have worked on a packet, but they still did a great job. I think they are going to do great with those skills for the rest of the year.
Hopefully everyone has a great break and comes back in two weeks refreshed and ready to work until Christmas!

I want to say a big thank you to the tech department at St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge. They donated two refurbished laptops to our school this week! I’m so excited to have these extra laptops, and I know the teachers will be just as excited!

We’ve had so much going on at school that I’ve been posting general posts and neglecting the weekly library updates! Things are going great in the library. We have been reading some good books and starting our informational resources practice, which will help us get ready for testing later this year!
Yesterday we also had a special visitor! Ms. Vega came to visit the students and she was able to stop by the library for a bit. The kids and I were excited for the surprise visit! Check back next week for more updates! There will be pictures from our Veteran’s Day Celebration posted on the main page Friday afternoon.

Well my Donors Choose project has been funded! Our school will be getting two new laptops very soon! Thank you to everyone who donated to my project and shared my page!

I forgot to mention yesterday that I have a Donors Choose project going on. I’m trying to get two new laptops for the library. We really need some new technology for projects and testing. Go check out my site for more details!

Alright! The book fair is in full swing! It’s Day Three and I haven’t even had time to update and put up any pictures. Here’s what it basically looks like (some of my pictures were blurry so I had to delete them).
I could not take a good picture today. They all kept coming out super blurry! I did get a good picture of Trace. It has been tricky to get any pictures of kids, because they always have to be somewhere else as soon as they shop!
I also want to say a big thank you to the parents! We have a had a huge turnout for help this year! I could not have done it without you guys, since all of the computers have also decided to break this week. I have to be in and out of the library during the fair!
Next week we will back to business as usual, but I’ll give an update on how our fair went. Two more days!!

The book fair is being delivered on Friday! That means that next week is our book fair! I know all of the students are excited. I have been showing them the book fair preview dvd all week. Next week is going to be very busy and loud in the library, but book fairs are always a good time.
Check back on Friday or Monday for some pictures of the set up fair!
Also, I want to say a big thanks in advance for the parents who are coming to help out! We wouldn’t be able to have a book fair without the parents!!

We finally got in our new books! I walked into the library after reading to the Pre K students to this sight. Eight boxes of new books!! This summer we found out that we had a little bit of money left over from the Laura Bush Grant Ms. Vega won our for our school. We purchase a nice mix of fiction, non fiction, and picture books for the school with the left over money. I’m sure all of the students will enjoy reading them! I’m going to have to grab a look at a lot of the new books too!
Also, don’t forget our book fair is in two weeks! Next week the catalogs will be going home in the students’ gold folders. I can’t wait to see everyone at the book fair!

Last week in the library third, fourth, and fifth grades started some informational resources centers. Fourth and fifth grade had an additional center where they had to write down on a post it either their favorite book or the type of books they enjoy reading. All of the students haven’t gotten a chance to come to this center yet, but below is the beginnings of our post it wall! I’m sure by the end of the week I will have many more post its to put on the wall.
Thanks fourth and fifth grade for all of your hard work!

Today Ms. Durfee’s class came to the library and had a fiesta! They are learning about Mexico and Canada in class right now, so we decided to make Mexican paper lanterns.
We made the lanterns in many different colors–even black. We all decided that black construction paper can be festive too.
I hope Ms. Durfee’s class brings another project into the library soon! It was fun to have a fiesta in the library!

All of the grades have been working hard in the library. Third through fifth grades have already begun practicing informational resources for testing later in the year, while the younger grades are working on a variety of ELA topics.
Also, get ready! Our book fair is in one month! Some of the students have already asked about it, so I know they are excited!

We had an amazing first week in the library last week. Each class got a review of my rules and procedures, then each student was able to take home their first book of the year. This week as long as a student remembers their books from last week, they will get another one to bring home and enjoy. If you have any questions about books, procedures, or anything involving the library, please contact me.
Remember tomorrow is our Open House! I will not be able to attend, because I start my fall class that night, but I will have a message on my door for everyone.
Have a great week!

Our website is up and running! If you will go to About Us and then click on Faculty and Staff, you can see a list all of our teachers. Click on your student’s teacher to see homework for the week and other information. We even have some teachers working on wikis! Look around the site to see all of pages we are working on.
Next week we start our regular library schedule. That means your students will be coming home with their first book of the year. Make sure they take care of it so someone else can enjoy the book.
See everyone next week in the library!!

Welcome back to school! All of us here at Leo Kerner are working hard to be ready for the arrival of our students on Friday!
In this section of the library wiki, I will give an account of what is going on in the library–hopefully weekly.
This week I’m busy unpacking and setting up the library. As usual, the students will not come until the second full week of school to start library time, but that doesn’t mean I’m not busy until then! I have lots of great things to set up before everyone starts coming in. Also, this year we will be getting lots of new books! I will definitely update and show off our new books once they come in!
Even my puppet friends are all ready to go for the new year!
